Korean 'Study with Me’ videos Find International Fans

한국의 '함께 공부해요' 비디오가 국제 팬들을 찾는다

Like mukbang eating videos, gongbang videos began as a South Korean trend but now have fans all around the world.

먹방 비디오처럼, 공부하는 영상도 한국인들 사이에 시작되었고, 지금은 세계 팬들이 있다.

 

The word gongbang comes from the Korean for "study broadcast": gongbu bangsong. The videos show people studying for anywhere between a few minutes and 12 hours. They're also called "Study with Me" videos and some have several million views.

공방이라는 단어는 한국의 '공부 방송'에서 나왔다. 최소 몇 분에서 많게는 12시간 동안 사람들이 공부하는 모습을 보여준다. 그들은 또한 '함께 공부해요'라고 불리는데, 그중 몇몇의 영상은 수백만 조회수를 기록했다.

 

A search on YouTube shows a mix of gongbang videos of Youtubers studying at home or in public places like libraries. Many videos include a timer, and use the Pomodoro technique of studying for set times with breaks. Some also have music.

유튜브에는 집이나 도서관 같은 공공장소에서 공부하는 유튜버들을 보여준다. 타이머를 포함하여 쉬는 시간을 포함한 공부법인 포모도로 기법을 사용한다. 몇몇은 음악을 틀기도 한다.

Some of the videos have thousands of comments, such as "this is the first time I’ve studied for 3 hours" and "it's nice to study with a buddy."

몇몇의 영상에는 덧글이 달린다. '처음으로 3시간 동안 공부했어요' 그리고 '함께 공부하니 좋네요' 등과 같은.

Popular Korean "Study with Me" Youtuber, Kim Dong-min, told Vice, "Because of the coronavirus, most people around the world are studying alone at home. I think my video tells them that [they] are not alone."

'함께 공부해요' 유튜버로 유명한 김동민씨는 말한다, "코로나 바이러스 때문에 많은 사람들이 집에서 혼자 공부합니다. 내 영상이 그들이 혼자가 아니라는 사실을 알려준다고 생각합니다."

 

Kim has over 52,000 YouTube subscribers and his most popular video has been watched over 380,000 times. A video from June 2020 shows Kim studying for over an hour. He doesn't speak, and all you can hear are the sounds of his pen, paper and other people studying in the room.

52,000명 이상의 사람들이 김씨를 구독했으며, 가장 유명한 영상은 380,000번 이상의 조회수를 기록했다. 2020년 6월부터 김씨는 한 시간 이상 공부하는 모습을 보여준다. 그는 말도 하지 않고, 그저 글 쓰는 소리와 같은 공간에서 공부하는 사람들의 소리만 들릴뿐이다.

 

Along with international fans, there are also international "Study with Me" Youtubers. In the UK, university student Ruby Granger makes study videos of herself studying, as well as videos about how to stay motivated. She has 567,000 subscribers.

국제 팬들과 마찬가지로, '함께 공부해요'  국제 유튜버도 있다. 영국에 Ruby Granger라는 대학생이 공부 영상을 촬영했고, 어떻게 꾸준히 공부해나가는지 동기부여에 대해도 이야기한다.  567,000명의 사람들이 그녀를 구독했다.

 

요즘 공부와 관련된 방송이 인기입니다.

같이 공부하고, 같이 쉬고, 같이 밥을 먹고, 다시 또 공부하고.

장작이 타는 소리도 듣고, 재즈를 듣기도 합니다.

 

코로나 시대에 함께하기가 어렵지만 여러 방법으로 우리는 함께하고 있네요^^
