More Americans Choosing E-Books and Audiobooks

The number of Americans who read books hasn't changed much over the past 10 years, but how they're reading these books is changing.

독서를 하는 많은 미국인들의 수는 10여 년간 바뀌지 않고 있지만 읽는 방식은 달라지고 있다.

 

Between January 25 and February 8, 2021, Pew Research Center surveyed more than 1,500 Americans about how much they read.

2021년 1월 25일부터 2월 8일까지, Pew Research Center에서 1,500명 이상의 미국인들을 대상으로 독서 방식을 조사했습니다.

 

The survey found that 75% of Americans had read a book — whether they finished it or not — in the past 12 months. This result hasn't changed much since 2011 when Pew Research first started asking people about reading.

Print books are still the top choice for Americans, but the results show that e-books and audiobooks are becoming more popular.

조사에 의하면 미국인의 75%는 책을 읽는다고 밝혔다 - 끝까지 읽든 읽지 않든 - 지난 12개월 동안. 이 결과는 2011년 이래로 독서에 대해 첫 번째로 질문한 사람들의 비율과 달라지지 않고 있다. 인쇄된 책은 여전히 미국인들에게 우선순위에 있지만 조사에 따르면 e북과 오디오북이 점점 유행한다고 한다.

 

The survey found that 65% had read a print book, compared to 30% who said they had read an e-book and 23% who had listened to an audiobook. In 2011, 72% said they'd read a print book, while just 17% said they'd read an e-book and 11% said they'd listened to an audiobook.

이 조사에 따르면  e북을 읽는 사람은 30%, 오디오북을 듣는 사람은 23%와 비교할 때 인쇄된 책을 읽는 사람은 65%라고 밝혔다. 2011년에는, 독서를 하는 72% 사람들이 인쇄된 책을 읽었고, 반면에 e북은 17%, 오디오북을 듣는 사람은 11%였다.

 

The survey also found that younger people were more likely to read e-books. While 42% of those aged 18 to 29 said they'd read an e-book, 28% of those aged 50 to 64 had, and only 18% of those over 65 had. Younger people were also more likely to have listened to an audiobook compared to older people.

조사에 의하면 더 젊은 사람들이 e북을 선호한다고 밝혔다. 18세에서 29세 사람들의 42%는 e북을 읽는다고 답했다. 50세에서 64세의 사람들은 28%, 그리고 65세 이상의 사람들은 단 18%만 읽는다고 전했다. 젊은 사람들은 또한 나이가 많은 사람들보다 오디오북을 더 많이 듣는다.

 

More Americans are reading and listening to e-books and audiobooks, but only 9% said they had only chosen these types of books in the past year. Thirty-two percent said they had only read print books, and 33% said they had consumed a mix of print books and e-books or audiobooks.

많은 미국인은 e북을 읽고, 오디오북을 듣는다, 하지만 지난해 이러한 방식의 독서는 단 9%였다. 사람들의 32%는 인쇄된 책을 읽고, 33%는 인쇄된 책이나 e북, 오디오북을 병행해서 본다고 한다.
